Norman Steisel Served As New York City Sanitation Commissioner

He served as Commissioner of Sanitation in New York City from 1979 to 1986. Mr. Steisel was accountable for all-around management of the $600 million enterprise. He differentiated himself by introducing a number of productivity endeavors. His leadership as Sanitation Commissioner was demonstrated by ambitious, creative decisions that succeeded in energizing the Sanitation Department while saving New York City millions of dollars.
